Harbor Fest Presents 7th Season of Jean’s Jazz
at Racine Theatre Guild
Harbor Fest and the Racine Theatre Guild invite you to warm up your winter with hot music for cool nights at the seventh season of Jean’s Jazz Series. Season packages and individual tickets are now on sale for dynamic live jazz performances on January 31, February 28 and April 5.
Jean’s Jazz Series was begun in the fall of 2001 with seed money from memorials to Jean Mooney, who died of ovarian cancer in June of that year. Jean’s husband, Joe, with Harbor Fest, developed the series to raise funds for the Racine Theatre Guild and to remember Jean, who was a jazz fan and a beloved volunteer for both Harbor Fest and the RTG. In previous seasons, many of the region’s finest jazz artists have appeared on the JJS stage, including Berkeley Fudge, Jackie Allen, Janet Planet, Mrs. Fun, Westside Andy, Randy Sabien, Ladies Must Swing, Harmonious Wail, The Swing-O-Matics, One Drum, Swing Nouveau and The Mr. Lucky Syndicate.
Here is the lineup for Jean’s Jazz Series 2008:
Thursday, January 31, 7 p.m. (our own Fat Thursday)—The Bourbon Street Stompers/Mama Digdown’s Brass Band
Wisconsin’s premiere Dixieland jazz band, The Bourbon Street Stompers bring an award-winning mixture of 1950’s-style Dixieland jazz along with occasional ragtime and novelty tunes. Mama Digdown’s nods respectfully to tradition, while adding a street beat that has built a reputation as one of the hottest and hardest hitting brass bands bar none.Thursday, February 28, 7 p.m.—Anita Stemper and the Brian Ford Trio/Chicago Afrobeat Project
Anita Stemper’s smooth vocal style adds a vibrant, classic sound to the Brian Ford Trio of seasoned musicians. Influenced by funk, rock, jazz, Afro-Cuban, high life and juju music, Chicago Afrobeat Project delivers an energized inventiveness different from any other band.Saturday, April 5, 7 p.m.—John Moulder’s “Trinity”
Inspired by Duke Ellington’s sacred works, “Trinity” is guitarist/composer John Moulder’s musical interpretation of our spiritual journey, written for contemporary jazz ensemble. The Chicago Tribune rated “Trinity” one of the top 10 best jazz CDs of 2006.
A night of Jean’s Jazz is a total audio, visual, social and soulful experience. Two sizzling sets are separated by a half-hour break to enjoy complimentary gourmet desserts and coffee provided by doux (Tricia Mooney) and Mocha Lisa. Jean’s Jazz Series offers superior acoustics; unobstructed sightlines; beautiful, smoke-free surroundings; plush, comfortable seating; cash bar (new this year—premium beers); room to dance; and the chance to meet and greet some of the area’s top talents, as well as fellow music lovers.

Season tickets prices: $32 for adults, $27 for seniors (62 and older), and $15 for students (21 and under).
