  • $10 discount per session applies to households registering for 2 or more qualifying sessions.  Discount does NOT apply to Theatre Workshop.
  • Do not wait until the last minute to register for a class. If minimum enrollment isn’t met a week before the start date, a class may be cancelled.
  • Down payment of 50% is non-refundable, unless class is cancelled.

Fairy Tale Players (ages 6-8)

$100/session ($90 for 2 or more per family)

Session 1: July 18th-22: 9:00-12:00  (Instructor:  Kara Ernst-Schalk)

Session 2: August 8-12; 1:00-4:00 (Instructor: Briana Lipor)

Learn basic theatre skills through rehearsing and performing a fairy tale.

Never Fear, It’s Shakespeare! (Junior ages 10-13) (Senior ages 14-18)

$100/session

(Junior ages 10-13) July 11-15; 1:00-4:00  (Instructor:  Kara Ernst-Schalk)

(Senior ages 14-18) July 11-15; 9:00-12:00 (Instructor: Kate Kowbel)

The work of William Shakespeare comes alive for kids!  Explore the poetry and characters of Shakespeare’s world – from a kid’s eye view!

Racine Theatre Guild – Kids Kamp (Jr. Ages 8-12) (Sr. Ages 13-17)

$165/2wk session ($155 for 2 or more per family)

Session 1 (Jr.): Mondays-Thursdays, June 20-30; 9:00-12:00

Session 2 (Jr.): Monday-Thursdays, July 25-August 4; 9-12:00

Session 3 (Sr.): Monday-Thursdays, July 18-28; 1:00-4:00

Join us in a summer of theatre fun.  Learn acting, vocal and dance techniques.  Play theatre games and join in with costume crafts!  Then, be ready to perform a mini-musical!

Curtain Up! (ages 13-18)

$100.00/session

August 15-19; 9:00-12:00

Students explore movement, vocalization, character development, improvisation and ensemble-building to create characters and stage presence that is unforgettable. Through workshop exercises, students begin to develop acting skills needed to create truthful characters, whether they are in the ensemble or the star of the show.

Creative Kids (ages 3-4)

$55/6 week session

Tuesday, June 21-July 26; 4:00-4:45

Creative movement plays an integral role in a child’s development.  This class provides an opportunity for the youngest artists to explore the space around them through rhythm and expression.  It’s playtime with a purpose; fun set to music.

Creative Kid Adventures (5 years)

$50.00/session, $95.00/2 sessions

These mini-camps offer a creative adventure for young performers.  Join us for an imaginary journey that will include creative movement, stories and crafts.

Session 1: June 28-June 30; 2:00-3:30

Fairy Tale Magic: Students will use their imagination to create fairy tale lands, villains and, of course, a “happily ever after” ending!

Session 2: July 5-7; 2:00-3:30

Under the Sea: Get ready to meet underwater animals, pirates and friendly sea creatures as we explore the world above and below the waves!

Broadway Bound, Jr. (ages 6-8)

$100.00 per session ($90 for 2 or more per family)

August 8-12; 9:00-12:00 

Students will learn the skills of a “triple threat”.  This class will focus on the performance techniques used in musical theatre performance – singing, dancing and acting.

Meet the instructors


KaraErnst
KARA ERNST-SCHALK directed our summer productions of The Marvelous Wonderettes, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and The Rocky Horror Show. She also directed/choreographed I Do! I Do!, My Way, A Grand Night for Singing and Lucky Stiff on our main stage, plus a heap of Children’s Theatre productions, including last season’s Bunnicula and Seussical.  She’ll be producing/directing Snow White and Pale Pink Dragon in the upcoming season. As a choreographer, Kara’s list of shows is extensive, and includes Spamalot, The Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, The Music Man and Anything Goes. She first appeared on our stage as Sr. Leo in Nunsense (1993) and was last seen as Mme. Thenardier in Les Miserables. She’s been the RTG Theatre Class coordinator and instructor for many years, and is certified to teach special education.

BrianaBRIANA LIPOR, a native of Racine, began her training in theater under the direction of former Theater Guild teacher, Phyllis Mount. Her passion for the arts blossomed throughout her childhood landing her roles in shows such as Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls, Footloose and many more! She went on to study Vocal Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, WI.  Her love for music, theater and dance motivated her to become a state representative for Music Friends organization and carry the message of arts education nationally as Miss Wisconsin 2008. Briana is thrilled to continue another year as an educator with The Racine Theater Guild and looks forward to many more!

KatieKATE KOWBEL is theater instructor and director of Horlick Theatre Arts. She is going to direct Pinocchio for the Racine Children’s Theatre this season, and has directed Almost, Maine for RTG and The Tale of Peter Rabbit (and Benjamin Bunny) for RCT. She’s first became involved with the Guild in high school when she was cast in HONK!  Since then she has participated in over 40 of our productions.
